The COVID-related delays have set back the release of Final Fantasy XVI by six months, with producer Naoki Yoshida announcing on Twitter that work has been set back for six months, and the next major reveal about their upcoming title will now be in Spring 2022. Naoki Yoshida also added that top-secret things concerning their new IP would be revealed in the meantime, but players should expect these announcements not to come until 2022 either.

Final Fantasy XVI has been delayed because it takes too long for a next-generation console game. The development process takes teams around the world. This particular title is no different, which explains why we are seeing pushbacks like these in currently being released games with newer technology.

“In an effort to offset the effects of COVID-19, we’ve had to decentralize that workforce by permitting staff to tackle their assignments from home.” said Yoshida, “This has unfortunately hampered communication from the Tokyo office, which, in turn, has led to delays in — or in extreme cases, cancellations of — asset deliveries from our outsource partners.”

The long wait for Final Fantasy fans will be even longer now, considering they were originally promised an updated entry in 2020. However, no new trailer or information about the game has been released since then, and there’s currently not even a release window announced!

Final Fantasy XV is over five years ago, but Square Enix has not let players go easy in the interim. They’ve released more recent games like Final Fantasy VII Remake and ongoing expansion for their online MMO called “Final Fantasy XIV”. The most recent release of this game’s installments is currently being met by high demand due to how popular they have become recently with suspension sales while trying to mitigate server queues caused by such popularity; producer/director Yoichi Yoshida also produces both FF14 as well its newest entry -16!

Yoshida’s letter states that the team is hard at work on the game, and they have plenty of plans for it in 2022! They’ll be focusing more heavily on graphics improvement and combat mechanics. Plus, we can’t wait until spring 2022 when there will finally be another big reveal from this famous series. So players should expect some big surprises in the next six months.
